    The next morning, on the legitimate 4th of July, I cannot lie in bed when the sun is about to rise. I must rise with it when I am at the beach: Above. The Brown Pelicans use the new morning light to fish for breakfast in the two images below.





    Obviously, I am not alone on this early morn; however, the sand sculpted turtle must have lasted through the night: Below.



    Early mornings in Duck are especially good for spending quiet moments on the beach, or walking down the many bike trails to the coffee shop. I had already had my time on the beach, and I was ready for the sweet accelerant of coffee. Pictured above is the trail along Highway 12 snaking through the trimmed live oak, and below is the rear of our favorite coffee shop / book store: Duck Cottage Coffee and Book Store. Located in The Waterfront Shops shopping center, one can easily notice the marshy topography of this waterfront shopping center, and my personal favorite - Martin boxes.



    The rear of The Waterfront Shops is truly along the shoreline of the Currituck Sound: Above. A recurring theme in Duck, NC is the painted horse sculptures. Pictured in the next two pictures below are the two horses that are situated in The Waterfront Shops: Below are both images.
